The recorder is a proper instrument with a rich musical heritage and beautiful sound when played well. It’s fantastic for solo playing and absolutely wonderful when played together in a group – there’s something magical about recorder ensembles. Don’t let its simple appearance fool you – the recorder family includes different sizes from tiny sopranino to deep bass, each with their own character. It’s perfect for children from age 5 upwards and great for adults who want to reconnect with music. You can even take graded exams on recorder, making it a serious musical pursuit.
I’ve developed a patient, encouraging approach that adapts to each student’s individual needs and learning style. I have extensive experience working with neurodivergent students and understand that everyone learns differently. With 15 years of teaching experience, I make recorder lessons fun and engaging while building important musical foundations like reading music, rhythm, and breath control. We’ll start with simple tunes that children recognize and enjoy, then gradually introduce more varied repertoire as confidence grows.
Recorder lessons are typically 30 minutes long and available on weekdays and in the evenings. I teach all sizes of recorder and can advise on which one to start with (they’re very reasonably priced), and provide all the music and materials needed.
